Reminder: New Social Indicator for Single-Family MBS

As previously announced, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) have rebranded the Social Index as the Mission Index™ and updated its formulation as further described in Fannie Mae's Social Bond Framework. The revamped Mission Index is effective for Fannie Mae pools issued beginning in March 2024 and will commence for Freddie Mac with pools issued in June 2024.

The Enterprises will also enhance their disclosures to include a Social Indicator that will allow them to assign a social label to Single-Family mortgage-backed securities (MBS) meeting the social bond criteria starting with June 2024 issuances. Additionally, Fannie Mae will retroactively populate the Social Indicator for eligible securities issued since March 1, 2024, which will be reflected in the ongoing MBS disclosures published on June 6, 2024.
