Fannie Mae Expands Transparency with Historical Credit Assessment Data

September 11, 2026

As part of ongoing Credit Score modernization efforts, Fannie Mae published historical credit assessment data based on the Fannie Score. For over 25 years, our proprietary Fannie Score has been tailored specifically for single-family residential mortgage lending and integrated into our Desktop Underwriter® (DU®) credit risk assessment. We are publishing this historical credit data for loans acquired between April 2013 and September 2025 in order to provide enhanced visibility into our internal credit risk assessment process.

As we announced on September 9, all approved lenders have the option to deliver either VantageScore® 4.0 or Classic FICO® for each eligible single-family residential mortgage loan delivered to us, even if multiple credit scoring models were ordered during the origination process. We are also actively developing the capabilities to disclose loan-level credit scores from multiple credit score models, when available.

Together, these efforts are designed to provide investors with a broader view of borrower credit risk, enhance transparency, and strengthen resiliency by reducing reliance on any single credit score model.

Visit our historical credit score files webpage to access the data and resource files. Users must login or sign up and accept the Terms and Conditions as well as the Fannie Mae Privacy Notice before downloading the data files.
